Trick or Treat

Today was the perfect catch up day! I started off meeting my best friend for an hour hike. It was perfect and exactly

the fresh air I was craving.

The hike ended around 11 and I was starving so before I headed to the gym I had a lara bar. These are my favorite and the healthiest option for a quick snack bar. They are made with all whole foods and so good.

I headed to the gym to get in a half hour weights session. After the gym on the way to Trader Joe’s I had an apple in the car.

I stocked up on lots of fruit and vegetables at Trader Joe’s and on my way home I snacked on this fruit leather.

Lunch was all over the place today because I was out doing errands and didn’t have time to sit and eat my meal all at once. When I got home and put all my groceries away I had a smoothie for lunch. I needed to get in some greens and I was craving a smoothie. The smoothie had rice milk (not my favorite at all but I need to use it up), frozen berries, 1 banana and and two big handfuls of a baby greens blend of swiss chard, kale and spinach.

For dinner I decided that before I went out for some Halloween fun I needed a big salad to fill me up to keep me from eating a bunch of treats. My salad was huge and the perfect meal it was exactly what I was craving. It was filled with lettuce, spinach, red pepper, carrots, goat cheese, salami (organic), walnuts and chickpeas. A total super food salad that filled me up.

I always make nutrition goals for myself and my recent goal was to get more green leafy vegetables in. I had a great start today. I’m pretty good at saying no to foods that I know are bad for me because I know how they make me feel afterwards. Sure they taste good in the moment but the more vegetables and fruits I eat the more my body craves them. I got some dark chocolate with some super foods mixed in (gogi berries, and maca) that I plan on having tonight for a Halloween treat! I hope everyone has a safe night celebrating Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone! This morning for breakfast I had grain free pancakes. These are the new thing and I have been eating them a lot lately. They are full of protein and super foods.
The recipe is simple:
Ingredients -
2 eggs
1 ripe banana
1/4 cup pumpkin (I added this today in celebration of Halloween)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Directions:
Mash banana and mix all ingredients together. Let them sit for five minutes before pouring batter on to the buttered (I used grass fed butter) skillet. Don't expect pretty pancakes! Top with drizzled honey.

Warning: I'm a coffee addict so expect to see coffee at every breakfast. I'm in graduate school and I have no plan on quitting this addiction anytime soon! I'm allowed to have one vise. Its more about the habit of it than it is about waking me up which is not always true. I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night to feel my best.
Today I am off to go get some fresh air on a hike with my best friend. Hope this will last about an hour. Then I'm off to the gym to get some weights in. The time I spend there today depends on how long the hike is. My goal is to get an hour and a half of exercise in today. My body, back and mind needs it after being stuck inside for 2 days. After my workout I have to go to Trader Joe's to stock up! I won't be posting until after dinner tonight. Everyone enjoy your Halloween and make it a healthy one!!

Halloween Eve!

Its the night before Halloween! I feel so bad for all of the kids who still have no power from the hurricane I hope they still have a special day tomorrow. This afternoon I wasn't able to get in that 30 minute walk. Its still to dangerous to go out for a walk there are trees and lines down all over. Instead I decided to do some youtube videos with some weights. I can't wait to head to the gym in the morning! Then I'm off to trader joe's because I am super low on food as you can tell from my dinner tonight. My goal was to use some leftovers up that I had. I had some leftover cauliflower rice that I had made.

An apple because I realized I didn't have any fruit all day!! Besides the pumpkin in my yogurt for breakfast!

This was not as good as I hoped I wanted to make chickpea salad which I did. I mashed up my chickpeas and added some organic mayo. Then I decided I need more veggies (cucumber and cabbage). It would have been much better with some olive oil and vinegar. I only ended up eating half of this.

I might have an ounce of extra dark chocolate in a little bit in honor of Halloween tomorrow! Have a great night everyone and I will see you all at breakfast!

Day one of my new adventure!

To start off I'll tell you a little bit about myself. I recently graduated with my undergrad in public health and a minor in nutrition. I started graduate school in September going for a masters degree in clinical nutrition. I'm obsessed with anything nutrition related and I'm a health and exercise freak! I though this blog would be the perfect way for me to share what I eat and what I do for exercise everyday and also a journal for myself to share what I have going on in my life. I love sharing information on health and nutrition to anyone willing to hear it. My goal with this blog is to share my life and by doing that I hope to help people with their own healthy lifestyles along the way. I'm excited to begin this new journey in my life and to meet many people along the way!! The blog is called the nutrition natzi because that is what my dad calls me! Sometimes I can't help putting my two sense in over what people are eating. Especially my own family.
Well since I missed blogging breakfast I will start with lunch. I'm home today because of the hurricane we had yesterday but I'm one of the lucky houses who still has power. Its always fun to eat breakfast foods at every meal! For lunch today I had two eggs scrambled with peppers and onions and 1 oz goat cheese.
The vegetables for lunch today that I had were sweet potato fries. I just cut one whole sweet potato up and coated it in some olive oil and salt and baked them in a 350 degree over. These are my new obsession I love them so much!
Since I was stuck inside the house all day yesterday I am dying for some exercise. My body is craving it. I woke up this morning and did a half hour yoga tape. My plan is to go outside in a little for a quick 30 minute walk to get some fresh air. Everyone have a great afternoon and I will post my dinner tonight!
